Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation The Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in February 2004 to help families of children with special needs and the community as a whole. Necessities Bag Necessities Bag is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women prepare for mastectomy through practical guidance and by providing essential supplies prior to surgery. Ridgefield Farmer’s Market Ridgefield Farmer’s Market operates Friday afternoons, 3 to 6 pm, June through October on the green in front of Cellar XV at 88 Danbury Road. The Market provides the community with fresh, local, and healthy food, and is a wholesome gathering place for young and old, for education, socialization, and to support local growers who use sustainable and healthy growing practices. Vendors include local and regional farmers whose practices are organic or sustainable. It is a “producer only” market at which farmers sell what they grow, harvest and raise and vendors of processed products sell what they have produced, primarily from Connecticut and Hudson Valley grown products. ridgefieldfarmersmarket.org
Ridgefield Guild of Artists The Ridgefield Guild of Artists is a regional and community-based art organization that promotes the visual arts and arts education by providing high quality gallery space for exhibitions, art classes for children and adults, opportunities for artist-in residency programs, and art lectures on-site and in collaboration with other cultural organizations. Ridgefield Library The Ridgefield Library is an intellectual and cultural center offering a supportive, welcoming environment that encourages all to read, to discover, to question, to exchange ideas and to grow. Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue (ROAR) ROAR is a private, non-profit animal shelter dedicated to the care and well being of dogs and cats who have lost their homes and are seeking a new family life. Built through the grace and energy of donors and volunteers, ROAR runs and maintains an efficient and beautiful shelter designed to be a model animal rescue operation. Since 2002, ROAR has rescued almost 2,000 dogs and cats, provided them with proper medical care, exercise, nutritional needs, exercise, and the attention and loving care necessary to achieve a healthy existence and prepare them for adoption. roar-ridgefield.org
Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra The Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra (RSO), led by Music Director Gerald Steichen. is a fully professional ensemble which performs classical concerts at the Richardson Auditorium, the Ridgefield Playhouse and in Lasdon Park in Somers, New York. The musicians come to Ridgefield from more than 30 different communities and are well respected orchestra players throughout the greater New York and New England area. Ridgefield Theater Barn The Ridgefield Theater Barn has been providing quality live theater productions to Ridgefield and the surrounding communities for 43 years. The “Barn” produces an ongoing series of comedies, dramas, and musicals and a production schedule of four shows per year, with performers chosen through open auditions. The cast and crew of every show run the gamut from raw amateurs to seasoned professionals. SPHERE SPHERE (Special People's Housing Education Recreation Employment) is a not-for- profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. The Ridgefield Playhouse The Ridgefield Playhouse is a 500 seat, community based theater about 60 miles outside of New York City. For more than 8 years, the Playhouse has maintained a busy programming schedule of first run movies, live entertainment and community events. The Playhouse’s live musical performances comprise a wide range of genres, including pop, rock, folk, blues and jazz. Western Connecticut Junior and Youth Orchestra Founded in 2003, the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra provides talented young musicians in the Fairfield County, Connecticut and Upper Westchester County, New York areas with an exceptional musical experience with a goal of fostering an awareness and appreciation of the standard symphonic repertoire. The youth and junior orchestras consist of over seventy auditioned musicians in grades four through twelve, hailing from Ridgefield and nine neighboring towns. wctyo.org
Woodcock Nature Center The Woodcock Nature Center has been a private non-profit source of nature and environmental education in Southwestern Connecticut since 1972. The full-time staff of the Center works with the local protected wildlife to serve as a resource for educating the community about the area’s natural surroundings through public outreach, school field trips and visits, on-site birthday parties and summer camps. Located on 149 acres of state-protected land, the Woodcock Preserve includes a pond, wetlands, and 3 miles of publicly accessible woodland trails. The Center is home to a variety of living local and exotic creatures including snakes, frogs, lizards and a handful of injured birds of prey. Southwest Café This little cafe tucked away in Copps Hill Common was opened in 1987 by Barbara Nevins, who moved here from New Mexico and brought with her her love of the Santa Fe cuisine. Having lived in Taos, New Mexico, she visits there every year in the Hatch Chile Season, August to September, to bring back 500 lbs of hand chosen New Mexican Greens to be raised, peeled and then made into daily specials through January. The Café’s food reflects the local cuisine in Northern New Mexico. The Southwest ambience of the cafe can be credited largely to the two renowned artists and personal friends of Barbara, R.C. Gorman and Dennis Haggerty, whose visions enhance the walls of the intimate little cafe with pictures and hand painted envelopes.
